Re: Republican Challenger, Niki Conforti calls out Congressman Sean Casten for contributing to “virtually insurmountable” debt levels.

Responding to news that the federal government’s national debt had topped $35 trillion, 6th district congressional candidate Niki Conforti (R-Glen Ellyn) chastised U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove) as being “complicit” and for contributing to “virtually insurmountable” higher debt levels.

Data released by the U.S. Treasury Department showed that, as of Thursday, July 26, the debt surpassed $35 trillion for the first time.

“The cost of living is up 25% since Congressman Casten took office,” said Conforti. “People I talk with across the district are fed up with spending-driven debt increases,” Conforti cited.

“These debt levels have pushed interest rates on credit cards and mortgages higher, putting additional burden on the people of this district” Conforti maintained. A key short-term interest rate set by the Federal Reserve is at a 23-year high.

“The painful effect of deficit spending that continues to increase the debt forces higher interest payments, takes away from needed programs and reduces the possibility of tax relief.

Congressman Casten remains complicit and continues to support far-left policies of massive spending, which hurts the constituents of the 6th District,” chided Conforti.

On Casten’s spending record, Conforti cited recently released weighted scoring by the National Taxpayers Union of every House vote through last year that significantly affects taxes, spending, and debt. In 2023, NTU evaluated 223 Casten votes and designated him as a “Big Spender”

“While Casten’s been in Congress, the national debt has grown by $13 trillion – 60%. Surely, we must do better,” Conforti said.

The 6th congressional district includes eastern portions of DuPage County, Southwest suburban Cook County, and 3 Chicago wards.
